With over two decades of teaching experience, Abraham Cheng is a dedicated and passionate piano teacher who has guided countless students toward achieving their personal musical goals. His teaching philosophy emphasizes a well-rounded approach that merges technical mastery with artistic refinement.

Abraham’s lifelong mission is to inspire and ignite a deeper understanding and appreciation for music. He earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Maryland at College Park, where he studied with Bradford Gowen. He has also studied with Pi-hsien Chen in Germany and Gregory Sioles, Boris Slutsky and Nina Svetlanova in the United States, and received chamber music coaching from Rita Sloan and members of the renowned Guarneri String Quartet.

 A versatile performer, Abraham has appeared as a solo recitalist, chamber musician, and vocal accompanist in the U.S. and internationally. U.S. performances in venues such as the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Ulrich Recital Hall, Strathmore Mansion, Library of Congress, F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Long Nguyen & Kimmy Duong Theater, Steinway Piano Gallery, and the Arts Club of Washington.

His extensive teaching experience spans students of all ages, skill levels and cultural backgrounds. His roster has included beginners, child prodigies, advanced performers, adult amateurs, and church worship leaders. Many of his students have excelled in recitals, competitions and achieved distinctions on all levels of ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) performance, practical and theory exams and some went on to pursue ARSM, LRSM, and FRSM advanced performance diplomas.

Fluent in English and a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese, Abraham is adept at communicating in either language, ensuring accessibility and understanding for all his students. Having previously taught at the Washington Conservatory of Music, Abraham is now on the faculty at the Moon School of Music in Fairfax, Virginia while maintaining an active teaching studio in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Recognized by Steinway with a Top Piano Teacher Award in the greater Washington, D.C., Abraham is in demand as a highly effective teacher. Additionally, he is also an adjudicator for competitions and auditions and most recently judged for the NVMTA Concerto Competition.
