Coming from a musical family on both sides, Rios was born fully aware of his purpose and passion. By age 3, he was given his first shot at playing drum set at his family’s Pentecostal church, one of the 3 churches he plays for on a weekly basis. By age 7, he began to teach himself the piano by ear, covering songs on the radio until it perfectly matched.

Rios continued his journey by picking up guitar at age 11, and eventually joining band in middle school as a percussionist. This venture would lead him to eventually placing top 5 in the All-Virginia band/Orchestra multiple times, lead the drumline as captain, and receive the John Phillip Sousa Award. Naturally, he began a Percussion Performance degree at James Madison University, where he was a member of the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Percussion Studio, & Drumline. He studied under Casey Cangelosi, a world-renowned marimbist.

During his time as multi-instrumentalist for New Beech Baptist Church, he performed under notable Pastors/Gospel Musicians Kierra Sheard, Dr. Jamal Bryant, Byron Cage, & Dr. E. Dewey Smith.

Rios’s passion for music production took full form after his college years, and eventually led to a further pursuit in that field. He honed his craft and carried his work ethic over into a new form, one that he felt would connect with more people. His self-produced albums received high praise from the likes of Questlove (The Roots, Grammy Award winner), Knxwledge (Grammy award winner, collaborator of Anderson Paak), Devin Morrison, & Okayplayer magazine. In 2021, he tied for first place in Ski Beatz SmackPack Beat battle, his first ever music production competition. Earning respect from notable producers 9th Wonder (Grammy Award winner, Kennedy Center) & Nottz (Grammy Award winner). Rios’ catalog in this field spans over 40 independently-released projects. One of which, earned him a feature on Bandcamp’s homepage as one of the “Best Instrumental Albums of the Year” in 2021.

Despite his tenure for production & performance, his spiritual journey eventually led him to teaching. Beginning his journey at Bach to Rock in 2018, he instantly fell in love with the experience and decided to grow in the field. He moved to School of Rock in early 2021, where he developed many memorable, useful, & life changing relationships. He also began to teach drums, xylophone, and piano privately. Relocating to Fairfax in 2022, Rios became a Drum/Percussion Instructor at Middle C School of Music, Substitute Drum teacher at Expressions Music academy, & is more than excited to spread his love for music at Moon School of Music!
