Since making her debut at Carnegie Hall in 1988, which was hailed as “vigorous” by the New York Times, Sevgi Tekin has enjoyed international recognition as a pianist.

A native of Turkey, Ms. Tekin began her career at age seven, and has since performed at some of the worlds most prestigious venues, beginning with her orchestral debut at Alice Tully at Lincoln Center in New York. She has also performed at Merkin Concert Hall, The National Gallery of Art, Bruno Walter Auditorium, the United Nations Auditorium, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.  Ms. Tekin was a featured guest artist at the Mid Summer Music Festival in Pesaro, Italy and in Brazil where she performed as a soloist with the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Tekin began studying the piano at the age two, and at seven gave her first recital. She is a graduate of the Istanbul State Conservatory where she studied with Gulsin Onay and Kamuran Gundemir, and graduated with honors in 1983. Many of her performances were broadcast over radio and television.

After winning the prestigious national competition and as the recipient of a scholarship from the Turkish Government, Ms. Tekin pursued her graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music to receive her Master of Music Degree as a student of Zenon Fishbein in 1987.  Ms. Tekin has received numerous distinctions, including piano awards in the Artists International, Distinguished Artist Competition.

After retiring as a concert pianist, Ms. Tekin dedicated herself to teaching the piano, compassionately working to advance her students’ levels.   She has been teaching piano for over 30 years, working with students at all ages and skill levels in New York and New Jersey.  She has recently relocated to Northern Virginia where she passionately continues teaching.
