Definitely! We have many adults students that study with us each week. We are happy to teach adults at any level from beginning to advanced. Music has tremendous benefits for the brain at any age. Whether you’re trying an instrument for the first time or picking up where you left off, it’s never too late to make music!

We use a combination of methods to teach our students at Moon School of Music. Our faculty will vary and tailor individual curriculum to the needs of each student. All of our lessons include instruction in the following: Ear Training & Dictation, Music Theory, Music Literacy & Notation Skills, Technical Proficiency, Varied Repertoire.

Although a real (acoustic) piano is usually best, it is not necessary to begin lessons. Students may begin with a keyboard. The most important thing to know when renting or purchasing a keyboard is that it must have full-sized keys (88 keys) with weighted keys. A weighted action is preferred to non-weighted action so that students can practice on an instrument that most closely resembles an acoustic piano.

Our instructors are the most highly qualified, with plenty of teaching experience, advanced degrees, and most importantly, a passion for teaching. Our Instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student’s learning style.

Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours and have years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parents on a personal level. Our teachers all pass a teaching background check (including trials lessons) as well as criminal background check.

At Moon School of Music, we hold recitals twice a year in the Spring Semester and Fall Semester. We encourage all students to participate in the recitals as the recital preparation process is a valuable experience. Memorization of pieces are required.

Absolutely. To get the most out of your lessons and classes, it is important your child practices between lessons. Students will receive weekly homework to reinforce what they learned during the lessons. For younger children (under 7), practicing for a long time might be difficult, so practicing 10-15 minutes a day (four to five days a week) is fine. It is more valuable to practice 10 minutes a day several days a week than to practice an hour just one day a week.

We recommend making practice time – no matter the number of minutes – a part of a student’s daily routine, just like school homework and soccer practice.

Band/Orchestra rehearsal is not practicing time. Regular, daily practice (outside of school) on the assigned materials is necessary in order to improve. However, we would be happy to work on band/orchestra with the student during the lesson.

Summer is a great time to take music lessons because everyone has more times on their hands. Not taking lessons usually means no practice at home; three months of not playing will definitely result in a noticeable decline in playing level. It’s also a great time pick up a 2nd instrument! MSM offers a summer leave of absence during the summer months for students leaving on vacation.
